The International House or I-House is a meeting place for all students at UT. It provides a “home away from home” for international students and promotes cross-cultural exchange and understanding among all students. The I-House sponsors numerous cultural activities, trips, excursions, holiday celebrations, and other events throughout the year.
The Confucius Institute at UT promotes the learning of Chinese language and culture to faculty, students, staff and the wider community of Knoxville and East Tennessee. It organizes events and programs including short-term Mandarin courses and cultural events. Established in 2013, the Confucius Institute is a collaborative effort with Southeast University in Nanjing, one of UT’s closest partners, and the Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN).

UT has over 20 internationally focused student organizations where domestic and international students can learn about other cultures and meet friends from their home country. Many of these student groups welcome and assist new incoming students from their home country or region as well as hosting cultural events.

The Ready for the World Initiative at UT is an ambitious plan to help students gain the international and intercultural knowledge they need to succeed in today’s world. The initiative includes globally-focused coursework, international experiences, and cultural events on-campus. A “passport” of cultural events is published each semester.
The mission of the Office of Multicultural Student Life is to contribute to an inclusive learning environment by enhancing institutional efforts in retaining and graduating students prepared for a diverse global society. It provides academic support as well as multicultural programs and events.
